Annotation of loncom/html/adm/help/tex/Course_Self_Enrollment.tex, revision 1.3
1.1 raeburn 1: \label{Course_Self_Enrollment}
2: Courses can be configured to permit self-enrollment. Settings are
3: available for the following:
4:
5: \begin{itemize}
6: \item Types and affiliations of users who can self-enroll
7: \item Restrict self-enrollment to students who are listed as officially
8: registered for the course in institutional course roster(s) for sections
9: of the course or for crosslisted courses.
10: \item Opening date/time for self-enrollment and closing date/time.
11: \item Starting and ending dates for access to the course for users who self-enroll.
12: \item Assign a specific section to users who self-enroll
13: \end{itemize}
14: When self-enrollment is set up a warning will be displayed if the
15: course is not listed in any course catalogs available in the domain.
1.3 ! bisitz 16: Guidance on how to get the course listed will also be provided if a
1.1 raeburn 17: warning is displayed.
18:
19: If a course is listed in a catalog users when viewing the course catalog
20: will be able to search for the course (there is a checkbox to restrict
21: courses listed in the catalog display to just those courses for which
22: self-enrollment is available). If such courses exist the list of courses
1.2 bisitz 23: will include a self-enroll link for each course. Users
24: can reach the course catalog from the Main Menu screen, and also from
1.1 raeburn 25: the roles page. Course Coordinators and other users with advanced
26: roles in the system can also reach the course catalog in the same
27: way, although the link on the roles page is less prominent for these
28: types of user.
29:
30: A user must be logged into LON-CAPA in order to self-enroll in a course.
31: However, if your domain permits it, users may be able to create a
1.2 bisitz 32: LON-CAPA account and log-in. Most commonly
1.1 raeburn 33: self-creation of accounts is permitted where a user can authenticate
34: with a username and password assigned by your institution to access
35: online services provided by the institution. If a user clicks the
1.2 bisitz 36: {}``Enroll in course'' link from the catalog, and needs to
1.1 raeburn 37: create an account, once the account creation step is completed successfully,
38: the user will proceed automatically to self-enrollment in the course,
39: assuming the user meets any restrictions set for self-enrollment in
40: the particular course.
