\section*{Introduction}
Help screens like this one will be available at certain points in the system.
You will recognize them by a small blue circle containing a white question mark symbol:
\includegraphics[width=0.025\paperwidth]{help}

After you log into LON-CAPA, you will see a list of roles/courses you currently
have in the system.

From that screen listing your roles, you will want to select a certain role,
for example: the student role in a particular course.
(hit the \textbf{Select} button next to the course you want to enter).

After you have selected a role, you can return to the roles/courses screen by clicking the
``Courses'' link (named ``Roles'' for some types of user), at the top right of the page
(one of four links which are displayed there on every LON-CAPA page).

The screen listing your current roles also includes a ``Functions'' menu with
a symbol/link: \includegraphics[width=0.03\paperwidth]{chkrole}
``Check for changes'' which you can use to check if new roles have been assigned
to you since you last logged in.

\section*{Navigating a Course}
You can move forward and backward in the content with the respective buttons:
\includegraphics[width=0.03\paperwidth]{forw} and \includegraphics[width=0.03\paperwidth]{back}
at the left side of the inline menu.
You can click the \textbf{Contents} link to display a listing of the course
contents from where you can quickly move to a particular page in the course.
\section*{Homework}
Your course might offer online homework. You can identify homework by the
colorful symbols (yellow - available; green - solved; red - past due) in the
\textbf{Contents} screen. You might have
more than one try to solve a homework problem, and the system
stores all attempts.

As you solve a problem, the computer will give you a receipt number.
Please write down this number in your records, it is your proof that you have
solved the homework.
\section*{Communication}
LON-CAPA has built-in communication support. You can send messages regarding
the course content using the \includegraphics[width=0.03\paperwidth]{fdbk}
symbol/link at the right side of the page.
You can choose different categories of feedback, including a contribution to
the course discussion.

Normal feedback gets routed to the TAs and course faculty.

Course discussions are page-specific discussion boards and appear right under
the page content you are viewing. You can choose to post anonymously, in which
case only the course faculty can see your name.

To send internal messages, or look at replies to your feedback, use the
\textbf{Messages} link at the top of the page.

Please use the built-in communication rather than normal e-mail, since it
automatically provides context for your questions and concerns.
