A domain can be configured to allow a course owner to change a student's password, if the authentication type is set to ``Internal'' for the student, and the student does not have unexpired role(s) in courses belonging to other course owner(s).

A Domain Coordinator can also choose to disable changing of a student's password in a specific course, if the domain default is to allow changing of student passwords by course owners.  In LON-CAPA, by default the course owner is the Course Coordinator who either requested the course, or for whom the course was created.  The course owner can be changed by the Domain Coordinator using the same course settings modification page, as is used to disable changing of passwords.
